Therapy for Lives Inside and Outside the Box.

Laura A. Jacobs, LCSW-R: Psychotherapist, Activist, Author, Presenter... Heretic*

We all can live rewarding, empowered lives.                       (845) 304-7915

Straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, pansexual, asexual, trans, transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, gender nonconforming, detransitioner, kinky, BDSM, sexworker, vanilla, monogamous, single, polyamorous, even unicorn… regardless of our lifestyle, our identity, or our background, we all have struggles.  We all have suffered trauma.  We all have difficult relationships.  We all seek happiness.

Life is not about finding yourself... it’s about creating yourself.
— G. B. Shaw

Therapy can be a challenging process of both exploring the past and creating the future.  As someone trans and genderqueer-identified, I understand the terrible effects of stigma, discrimination, trauma, and depression on an individual's life.  I seek to establish a comfortable environment in which we can work together, safely asking questions and making empowered decisions about to move forward, while simultaneously investigating questions of meaning.

Our initial sessions will be to get to know each other and to establish a trusting relationship in which we can gradually address issues with more depth.

Experienced with individuals, families, and couples, LGBTQ+ and alternate lifestyles, artistic professionals, sexuality, HIV/AIDS, grief and bereavement, addiction, and more, as well as in issues of marginalization and otherness, I am happy to work with people from adolescents to the elderly, of all orientations and expressions.

Let's collaborate to create the richest, happiest life for you possible.

Hours in Manhattan and Westchester.

* Heretic: Deriving from the Greek "Hairetikos" meaning "One who is able to choose."

June 2016: Appointed Chair of the Board of Directors, Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, New York, NY!

I'm thoroughly honored to assume this position of leadership at an organization that has meant to much to the LGBTQ community for the past 40+ years, and to me personally for the last 15.  Callen-Lorde is one of the largest LGBTQ health centers in the country, as well as one of the largest providers to transgender and gender nonconforming populations worldwide.

I am the first trans and genderqueer identified person to occupy this post at Callen-Lorde (and possibly at any of the LGBTQ health centers).  I look forward to helping Callen-Lorde continue to serve the LGBTQ community of New York City and the world in all its' diversity and to lead LGBTQ healthcare into the future.
