"A breath of fresh air.  This book provides, with equal measures of scholarship and humility, thoughtful pushback against the most common misconceptions, misunderstandings, and just plain lies about trans people and the people who love them."  - Jennifer Finley Boylan

“ 'We call ourselves mythbusters now? Cool!' Laura A. Jacobs says to Laura Erickson-Schroth. This is a new addition to their professional titles: Laura A. Jacobs, LCSW-R is a psychotherapist and Laura Erickson-Schroth, M.D., is a psychiatrist, and together, they've co-written the new book, You’re in the Wrong Bathroom! And 20 Other Myths and Misconceptions About Transgender and Gender-Nonconforming People.

For transpeople who are learning about themselves, it is a crucial read... For cisgender people, especially loved ones and allies, this book is an invaluable source of information.... This book helps educate people, and education is the only way we will survive these dark times.

"Essential reading for anyone performing allyship to the trans, gender non-conforming, and non-binary community, “You’re in the Wrong Bathroom!” examines the most popular myths and misconceptions from a medical, social, psychological, and political lens about what it’s like to trans in America." - Ravishly.com

"This is the book every trans ally needs to read this year." -Bustle

"In You’re in the Wrong Bathroom!”: And 20 Other Myths and Misconceptions About Transgender and Gender-Nonconforming People (Beacon, May 2017), Laura Erickson-Schroth, a psychiatrist and editor of Trans Bodies, Trans Selves (Oxford University, 2014), and Laura A. Jacobs, a trans psychotherapist and writer, confront pervasive misinformation, including unfounded fears about bathroom use, with a straightforward approach. The book is divided into four themes: “Identity,” “Sex and Relationships,” “Health and Safety,” and “History and Community.” Under each, brief but cogent entries work to dispel a particular myth, for example, “Trans People Are Trapped in the Wrong Body,” “Trans People Are a Danger to Others, Especially Children,” and “The LGBTQ+ Community Is United.” Throughout, the authors dispense commonsense guidance, reminding readers that gender identity goes beyond genitalia and that everyone is entitled to privacy and respect. Names and pronouns matter, so when in doubt, the authors advise simply asking politely about personal preferences. While entries can be read separately, together they offer a succinct introduction to important transgender issues, including the need for better medical care and coverage, the lack of legal protections, and the social and emotional impact of discrimination based on appearance. Useful for personal and professional development, this title should reach a wide audience." - School Library Journal

State after state is passing asinine “bathroom bills” that target transgender and gender nonconforming people. Those laws, as Laverne Cox has beautifully articulated, are designed to extinguish a trans person’s right to exist. It is all rooted in transphobia and homophobia, which is the reason You’re in the Wrong Bathroom! is such a pertinent book for this moment. Psychiatrist Laura Erickson-Schroth and psychotherapist Laura A. Jacobs debunk 21 misconceptions about transgender and gender nonconforming people, including the ideas that trans people are “trapped in the wrong body,” mentally ill, and dangerous to those they share bathrooms with.

You’re in the Wrong Bathroom! is not a light or easy read. It’s purposefully dense, but serves as a great resource for those invested in fighting for trans rights.   -Bitchreads

Erickson-Schroth and Jacobs’ book is invaluable because it’s clearly written, tightly focused, and allows me to clear-cut my way through a lot of misinformation and get right to the point in my own work. I want to have several copies of this book on my shelf so I can give it to people...   Erickson-Schroth and Jacobs help to demonstrate the normality of transgender life, which will hopefully usher in a new awareness that will end this broken telephone game.
